Cartoonists are closer to it than you might think. When these samples ran in the 90’s, more strips still made their income through reprint rights to newspapers. With the miracle of online comics, there are far, far fewer venues for a strip. Simply appearing on a website doesn’t guarantee cash.
These characters look a great deal like the ones in “Baby Blues,” but the artists of that strip are Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott. Anyone know of a connection?
This has been a very interesting history of the strip. It would be nice if other strips followed suit for the strips that have been around for a very long time.
But the styles aren’t different, even if the artists were/are. That’s what several of us seem to be noticing. The similarity between that old “Working Daze” and the current “Baby Blues” is, well, kinda startling.

I really thought these guys would know when and when not to use an apostrophe in “its.”

I know I’m not the only one who expected a ‘Dilbert’-type drawing style for the 90’s. Plus I’m not a big fan of ‘Baby Blues, I like ’Zits’ better.

I’m still waiting for the “Doonesbury” style to show up.
