Mormon’ Vista Bill! Hmmm….Diet cash or not, guess they’re pretty nervous about this if they’re gonna give up after 7 days if he doesn’t have the 300 g’s by then…. Hope they don’t use Lena’s hire as an escape route ha ha
Thank goodness! Today’s strip is finally here. I’ve not been able to sleep at all. Ok what’s happening. Sister mine messing up the Vulcan salute, More popcorn, Tracy and Sa,,ZZZzzzzzzzz…
Behind Every Kernel of Popcorn There’s a “Silver” Lining!
.
Sister mine you need not fear,In one more night we’ll disappear.Into the snow where none will know,Where we have gone or choose to go.The popcorns dry so show you’re sweetAnd cause this snack to be a treat. The food of kings it’s meant to be,So add more butter, generously!
Thank You, Thank You and Thank YOU! ( You know who you are! )
Panel 3 is a classic piece of art! Such depth of field, such psychological foreboding! The Old Silver Nitrate Travelling Scam Show with Sprocket and Lena will be boarding no Superliner tomorrow. Their next ride will be a rolling wagon, all right—but either a paddy wagon or a meat wagon….
You mean this time tomorrow, you’ll be behind bars Silver! This was a nice filler story. Can’t wait to get back to the Black Hearts, Mrs. Flattop, Mumbles, Double Up, B.B Eyes, etc.
One thing, though. If the money has not actually changed hands yet, what do they have on Silver and Sprocket at this point? They don’t know anything about the murder, so is there any crime they could be charged with? I hope Tracy hasn’t “jumped the gun”, or did Vitamin really turn over all that cash to them?
This board is becoming quite the poetry corner. What would poetry be without a limerick? To escape this particular jamSilver’s plotting to go on the lam.But don’t get too excited"cause someone invitedtwo fellows named Tracy and Sam!
OK, there’s something I don’t get. If Our Man Flint knew it was a scam, why did he ask Juan Valdez for access to the $300K? Or, is ol’ Juan part of the scam?
They’re going on a train, right? I’m sort of picturing a train chase, though I’m not sure that will happen or even if it could. The fact that Silver is so sure they are leaving tonight suggests to me that Vitamin has already handed over the money. If he did, then Dick and Sam have ample cause to arrest them.
The snow could also figure into the chase if there is one. I think this one was drawn 4-6 months in advance, so it wasn’t likely to have been snowing at the time it was drawn.
RE: The various comments about the snow coinciding with our actual weather. They have said these strips are drawn several months in advance, but Mike and Joe probably write their stories to line up with the calendar days when they will actually run. And snow in February is not a big stretch. And, most importantly, these are Chester Gould style snow flakes. The snow flakes in Dick Tracy were so identified with the strip that they were mentioned in other media. I know I read a reference to them in one of the 87th Precinct novels by Ed McBain. – I think it was He Who Hesitates , but I’m not sure.
Yes, Silver…your scamming days will be behind you, but prison awaits ahead of you. I just hope Sprocket has picked up some shoes if she’s going to be out in the snow.

Silver’s got a serious popcorn addiction(!), but yeah, it sure doesn’t look like he’s going to make it to any Superliner.

Silver looks old enough to be the mother, or maybe grandmother, instead of the sister.
