@c.davies fborfw.com/strip_fix— under the cartoon, she usually (but not always) puts notes. I love them too.
Oh, and my 7 year old just learned that doing your own hair is less painful. It was a wonderful day! Sadly, she has my knotty hair that never stays nice. My 5 year old has hair that never ever knots or looks messy. I am jealous! :-) And neither will let me do anything, even ponytails are rare. Learning to french braid isn’t happening, which is funny because my mother had the same issues with me <3. She never did learn.
This so reminds me of when I was a kid with my mom. She always yanked my hair too tight to do ponytails so I learned how to do it for myself at a young age as well.
Susan Olsen said the biggest mistake she made when auditioning for The Brady Bunch was having her Mom style her hair like Buffy from Family Affair. Then she was stuck with that stupid hairstyle for years.
I could never understand why my wife was this way with our daughters, though by the time the 3rd girl came along, it seemed it was less necessary for her to impose her preferences on the unwilling.
One of the enjoyable things about FBOFW is seeing our own faults and failings in Elly and Jon, being able to laugh at them, and maybe recognize where some changes need to be made.
It would be nice if someone could do the same for the Elly-bashers, who might be able to see how bad they look to the rest of us and become a little more friendly.
Reminds me of the definition of a sweater: Something a kid is forces to wear when the mother is freezing. My daughter never complained of my styling her hair. Mainly because I let her tell me what to do. But I am a male so what do I know?
I guess Lynn decided she need a day off (no criticism intended, we all do once in a while, especially creative people who write wonderful comic strips for decades). This strip was first published over 20 years ago.

Is it “Kids say the darnedest things” or “out of the mouths of babes”?

I tried to do my daughter’s hair once. It’s a secret only women know and it’s amazingly difficult. Finally gave up. Natural is best. ;-)

Obviously, as a male, I need an education. I thought that a pony tail was a single braid, while two were called pigtails.

What Elly is trying to do was called “doggy ears” when I was a child. Loved them and wore them a lot.

I remember my mom wanting to play with my hair when I was a kid. It always got on my nerves. Mainly because my hair is so thick.
