We have corndogs in California. It’s just that they’re grilled over a wood fire rather than deep-fried (no trans-fats), the cornmeal coating (molded by hand, from blue corn) is infused with essence of lime and balsam, and the pork is from hand-fed, free-range pigs. Instead of ketchup and mustard you have your choice of pesto, habanero salsa, or wasabi. Oh, and you have to turn the stick back in when you’re finished, because they’re made from trees (they’re not reused, they’re added to the fire below the grill). They’re $12.00 each, but they’re the best dam corndogs you’ve ever tasted…
I used to think we were lame cuz all “American” food is mostly Americanized foreign food, like Chinese, Thai, Italian, Mexican, etc. But no, there is redemption. We have invented the crummy health food. Saints Be Praised!
Eh. Americans came from all over everywhere, so why shouldn’t our food come from all over everywhere?
Actually, if we can be said that Americans invented “crummy health food”, it can also be said that we invented the “junk food” which necessitated a counterbalance.
Oh Beautiful, for Tofu Dogs, Insecticided grains,
For strip-mined mountains, Majesty
Above the asphalt plains.
America, America,
Man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines
With billboard signs,
From sea to oily sea!

Might be Canada, but I think they still eat meat up there: moose, beaver, squirrel, etc.

Hard to believe we Americans once drank from streams and killed our own corn dogs.
