Casual usage means “useless, worthless, pointless”. A worthless person or someone you have no use for.
My best English friend (They hate the word British, guys – there are several different countries and regions, you know) says it is usually applies to what we’d call white trash. A casual synonym in his part of England -Manchester is “chav”.
“Tosser” does take on a different meaning when applied to a salad ingredient.
