As regards dog training, it’s not the volume of the voice but the confidence and authority behind it. My stepmother’s yappy rat won’t take orders from her but I can get him to sit with just a gesture. But as soon as I move my hand he’s back up and noisy again.

I take my dog to the Dog Park. There are always newcomers, puppies and the like that jump up on people. I am a whispered, just point at them as they come at me, they stop dead and stare at the finger.
