The Silver Streak Zephyr ran from 1949 to 1959 between Lincoln, NB and Kansas City, MO. I suppose that’s what the reference is to. Two things I noticed, they’ve escaped before (but by car) and Silver actually expects to be followed! Maybe he’s smarter than I thought.
After talking about the car, we suddenly go to car show. Maybe that’s a sneak peek at an upcoming story, but it could be part of this story, too.
Of course Silver found another Silver for transportation. Maybe they could swing by for a New Orleans Zephyrs baseball game! Pitchers and catchers have reported!
Silver’s escape plan is more devious than I had expected. We shall have to see if it works. Meanwhile, back at Wonder Cars of the World, who is she and who was he? What’s going on here?
My first impression of the halftrack vehicle in panel 3 was that it looked like something that might be cruising around a Bond-villain stronghold. (I Googled vehicles from Goldfinger and Moonraker, but those aren’t it.) That got me wondering if the car could be an Aston-Martin. (The color suggests Columbo’s rustbucket Peugeot more than 007’s wheels, but maybe the colorist was trying to suggest shadow?)
On an unrelated note, the vehicle with the radar dish also reminds me of the rover from Lost in Space.
I still don’t get why Silver appears so content with the way things are going. He is fleeing without one dime from his scam, and all he has to show for it is a murder that he is trying to cover up. Is he a dope, or is there something hidden in the story that we haven’t seen yet?Note about Joe’s excellent art – that’s a real nice touch, showing the passenger sitting sideways in his seat in panel one. People really do ride trains that way, if there is room. Joe is the kind of artist who observes real life, and translates what he sees into his drawings.
It just struck me that Silver looks a little bit like Spinner ReCord, a villain from the mid 50s who also used a train, and a doubling back, as part of his attempt to commit the “perfect crime”
I thought of this days ago, but has anyone else noticed that Sprocket’s orange top is designed to look like film sideways, with the “sprockets” at the top and bottom? Extremely clever, Joe!

Many empty seats on the train, much like today’s travel. But a great way to escape.

I wonder how long he can go without lighting up?

Presumably we’ll see a few shout-outs at the Wonder Cars of the World exhibit, possibly Archie’s old flivver?

That yellow monster in the back intrigues me.

This is great! So many things going on. Where is Mary? Where is Mysta? Where is Rikki? Where is Venus?

I kinda like that front-end loader with the Death Ray gun on the roof. Does it come with an Imperial Stormtrooper action figure operator?
