Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for February 19, 2014
Transcript:
President King: By re-imagining Walden as a profit-driven institution we'll be able to shift scarce resources from instruction to marketing! However, the transition to proprietary education will be challenging, the Walden of the future is not the one that accepted all of you! Zipper: Think they'll try to buy us out? Friend: They have to. To make room for all the suckers.

It still would be great if 9 Chickweed Lane had comments. It is a most unusual comic.

Troll example: I have addressed the issue of trolls in the past and was immediately insulted by DHG, because I am a liberal and he is not.

Troll, as in trolling for suckers, although these suckers aren’t necessarily bottom feeders.

you mean to say Republicans aren’t by nature hate filled, selfish, immature, evil spawned cells of disinformation, greed, and other symbols of evil that want to destroy the common bonds of society under the aegis of denial, deflection and disunity.
gosh, they act that way. who’d have thought they are acutally humans and not trolls out of Norse legend. imagine that. Republicans are humans. who’d have guess taht from teh way they “are” around others.

A few comments, if you’ll permit me:
(1) Pretty much this entire “discussion” has been a huge troll, by the strictest definition, since GT and Doonesbury have been mentioned only in passing, and it’s the Doonesbury comment forum, after all. Obviously, “trolling,” by that definition, is not always a bad thing.
(2) McEldowney explained: “So, I objected and objected and objected as time went on and the tenor of posts became subject more and more to abuse. I wanted my work to appear as it did in the beginning, alone, without a raging public forum affixed to it. It was like looking at a work of art with the walls about it scrawled densely with graffiti.”
(3) Since his drawings are often, shall we say, sumptuous, they tend to bring out the puerile side in lots of (mostly male) commenters. Personally, I was pretty tired of that.

Oh, but if you deny climate change, the only possible thing to call you is “intelligent”. Anything else is an insult.(sarc font)

“I do not know if McEldowney had any say in the matter…”
Actually, it was completely McEldowney’s idea to close the comments sections of his comics. He posted about it in his blog.

When Brooke McE shut down the comments on 9CL and Pibgorn part of his reasoning was the preponderance of low-brow, sexist comments.

He only believed those fact checkers whose interpretation agreed with his own.

You need a new name. I suggest “Fun House Mirror” as you so delight in presenting you opponents as grotesque mirror-images of yourself. Mirror, mirror on the wall …

Just checking, in THIS comic, should the word in the first panel say “re-imaging” instead of “re-imagining”?

I usually love Chickweed, and adored the Edie serial. It’s nice to see Bill’s side of it now. Especially, since I was just starting to miss the long story arc and wanted something new to obsess every morning over. If we can’t have comments there, Doonesbury is as good a place as any to chatter on about it ; ) . Less sexist trolls, at least (if only because half the audience has no idea what we are talking about).
That said, I was thinking Bert was Souris before. I trusted him in a Nazi uniform, now I don’t trust him at all. What does that say about me? eeeks!

I, too, enjoy 9 Chickweed Lane and Pibgorn, but I think the author’s insistence on closed comments section AND the liberty to vent his oh, so arch political spleen on Sunday’s Pibgorn without fear of debate is, to put it bluntly, cowardly.

Well, good luck Dr. Dan. I think it is fairly obvious when someone viciously attacks a person every time they express a liberal point of view, that they are in fact, attacking you because you are liberal. I seem to be someone that the cons can’t abide as a lefty. I will not “refrain from making accusations to the motivations of others,” when said motivation is clear and completely obvious. I will not apologize for having a liberal POV and I would remind our righty friends that if you want to get respect you have to also give respect.
montessoriteacher over 10 years ago
It just strikes me as ironic that this thread is so often hijacked by the cons. GT is not a Republican. He never has been and he never will be. He is unapologetically liberal.

Who is Bill? My comment referred to your previous comment Ragarms.

If we must have trolls, I’d prefer the kind that are not so long-winded; less space to scroll past. Also, I’m hoping this doesn’t become the Pibgorn comments section.
