Thank you for the Phil Everly tribute, Guy, even if it took a while. And on a Sunday strip. RIP Phil

A message to Guy. A few years ago, I wrote the Gilchrists a note of appreciation for continuing the Nancy strip. A lot of people don’t remember the early strips. My introduction to the strip came in the 1940s reading reprints in comic books, so I met Fritzi, Nancy, Sluggo, Phil and the kids a long time ago. Our paper didn’t carry the strip, so I was restricted to comic books and the occasional trips to St. Louis where my aunt got a paper that carried it. When we moved to the Pacific Northwest most of the comic books that reprinted strips were gone. You and my computer reintroduced me to Nancy in the 1990s. On July 30, I will be 72 years old. I want to publicly thank you and Ernie Bushmiller (RIP) for many wonderful hours spentwith these lovely people. You have developed Friti into a woman of wonderful character and looks and Nancy into a child I would loved to have raised myself. You have given them lives showing faith and a great respect for music — I love this family and and their adventures.
May the grace of God bring you many blessings.

Actually – That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine was written by Gene Autry – and – there was a time when Aunt Fritzi’s Dad would have been taking her to see Gene Autry movies -
XXXXXXXXXXXX
According to Wikipedia -
“That Silver-Haired Daddy Of Mine” was the first hit song of American cowboy entertainer Gene Autry, a duet with fellow railroad man, Jimmy Long, which Autry and Long co-wrote. Written and recorded in 1931, the single achieved greatest popularity in 1935 on Vocalion 02991m selling 5 million copies. It was featured in the 1935 Western films Tumbling Tumbleweeds and The Phantom Empire.
The lyrics are addressed to the elderly father of the narrator; they wish to repay him for the trouble they have caused him.

Love the artwork in the title panel! And the subtle resemblance to Nancy herself in the young Fritzi! Well done, Mr. Gilchrist!

I f Fritzi wants to keep her records in good shape, get rid of that Crosley. They have a horrible rep for needle wear.

Thanks Guy. I had the honor of teaching with a cousin to Phil and Don. Central City, Kentucky is not far from my home. (Less than 45 miles)

Good things happen to those who wait. I listen to an oldies radio station that plays them all the time. Great work Guy! Keep it up!

I doubt anyone will see this unless any of the previousposters come back to see what else was written. I grewup listening to the Everly Brothers, & I learned how to singharmony from them! I have been in many bands over theyears, playing bass guitar & singing leads if I had to, butmy favorite thing is to sing harmonies with other musicianswho also grew up on the Everly Brothers! I have all of theirsongs on a CD collection & I listen to them almost everyday! I just turned 67 in January & I don’t play anymore, but I still sing karaoke, & the Everly Brothers is what Ising just about every time! “When will I be loved” is oneof my favorites to do when other singers know the song, &especially when two girls are singing!Thank you Mister Gilchrist for the tribute!!

Somehow I see Fritzi’s dad liking Eddie Fisher, Perry Como, Tony Martin, Frankie Laine, the Ames Brothers, Pat Boone and other great ’50s favorites.

Come on Fritzi, I know a lady never tells her age, but you were out of your teens by the big band era.

Once the Beatles became the favorite band of the youth, the boomers felt that music must include a guitar or it isn’t worth listening to. Before the Beatles, I would listen to my dad’s old 78s. Oklahoma, Oh Susanna, and Red Wing were in his stack. Those under 40 years old today seem to appreciate the oldies as well as the new. I think Nancy would enjoy those old songs.
