Sometime before the invention of fire, I was a Freshman at an engineering school. A friend, a Senior EE, had a TV in his dorm room, and it quit. Printed circuit board, bunch of tubes. I had to show him how to use a light to search for a crack in the board. (We found it and dribbled a bit of solder on it. Worked fine….)
One of the reasons I bailed – practical skills…. ’Course, today, you do everything with EPROMS….
