When you sit in a stupor, stuffed with grease and sugar, nothing much registers. When you are as stupid as Burl, you don’t notice anything but whether the snack bowl is empty or not.
Is it the TV he didn’t notice or the fact she won it? How can one not notice a larger TV? OH it’s Burl we are talking about.
If it’s a flat screen where will they put the VCR? and picture of them? Well I hope they enjoy it while it lasts, it probably came out of someone’s basement because they got a bigger one.
Yeah, only Burl wouldn’t notice a big-screen TV….though we’ve seen their “old” one and it’s no 13"-er.
(And with the randomness of chronology in this strip, and re-use of old panels, it’ll be back next time, anyway, and this one forgotten)
Joy can vaguely recall once buying a 13" TV.
Her memory and arithmetic are both insufficient to process the idea that all the ones they’ve bought since then have been way bigger.
She referred to them all as 13" TV’s, partly for sympathy, and her friends were too stupid to see that the Pennys’ were moaning about “tiny” TVs that were were enviably large, even before this bigger one.Two people hardly ever deserve each other more than Burl and Joy.So lucky for them they are mutually admiring….and so mind-boggling to everybody else.
And one does not usually put a flat screen TV right on the floor… I’m surprised they didn’t just set it on the RCA. Also notice it is the older aspect ratio.

As observant and as sentient as a toadstool. Or less.

We’ve replaced Burl’s TV with one that has a bigger viewing area. Let’s see if he notices!

And Susan, your first paragraph is probably correct.
