    Polar vortex? In Canada they call it spring.

    The polar vortex is a permanent low pressure caused by the low incidence of sunlight at the poles, relative to the higher pressure at lower latitudes from solar warming. It is not the cause of the cooling currently being experienced in the upper latitudes of North America. It is what is being experienced. The polar vortex has expanded beyond average limits this year, as it sometimes does. Feel free to panic if it seems appropriate. I won’t judge you.

    According to my grandmothers’ diary from 1904, the weather and temperatures thru January and February of that year were identical to what we’re experiencing now. A hundred year coincidence? Hmmmmmm…
