legaleagle48—-In theory yes. I just read that in NY state however, only a little over 20 percent of the money in their “dedicated highway fund” actually goes toward rebuilding roads & bridges. The rest (the bulk of it) goes toward other state budget shortfalls. Sort of like all of those Billions stashed away in the Social Security Trust Fund Lock Box. Billions collected for specific uses, & most given out instead to entitlement programs & foreign aid to countries that hate us?
Perhaps reducing the number of office workers in middle management, whose jobs are to create/process red tape, would free up the money for the necessities.
I don’t understand people who demand more services from the government while also demanding lower taxes. The money to pay for it has to come from somewhere!
They could all go work for the construction companies that would be desperate for people to help build and maintain all those roads and bridges. Then a corporation can pay them, instead of the taxpayers.
Speaking of getting money from taxes to pay for government services: I am given to understand that each member of the City Council for Los Angeles gets like $3mil a year that they can use for any public purpose they like.… which generally gets spent on junk like museums named after the Council member and that maybe a dozen people will actually ever visit …
See, here’s the problem. Yes, if you want public services, you have to pay for them with taxes. That is very true as a general principle. In actual practice, we’re trusting the stewardship of that money to a pack of morons who can’t even balance their own personal checkbooks (documented fact). So what’s the point of wanting more taxes when the result is most likely NOT going to result in better or increased services?
So, the little guy in the feathered hat is from the EU, wanting more and more without paying for it? Or at least we might once have THOUGHT he was from there. Today, he might be from Peoria.
Just wait until they start taxing electricity with road taxes. The did it with propane. The only reason to use alternative energy is the cost savings. When a significant amount of people do it, the taxes soon follow.

But let’s face it — how else are those improvements you want supposed to be paid for? Like it or not, if you want to play, you’ve got to pay!

Well, fortunately they recently repealed the telephone tax that was paying for the Spanish-American war.

As John Conley once said, a government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take from you everything you own.
