Scooby-Doo, on the other hand, was awesome. It taught that supernatural causes are always some guy in a mask trying to scare you, and that “meddling kids” can outwit them.

And it’s not like kids are being deprived of Jack and the Beanstalk today. As a parent, I can tell you that almost every modern kids’ cartoon does an episode based on Jack, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, or both at some point.

…and every sitcom does a version of A Christmas Carol, It’s A Wonderful Life, and The Gift Of The Magi.(The first two are usually dream sequences.)

I have never forgiven Popeye for making me want to taste canned spinach.

Superman taught us the aerodynamics of a towel pinned around our necks.

Superman taught us that guns are dangerous. Not when someone shoots at you, but when they throw the empty gun at you. I mean, if Superman, who can take six shots to the chest without harm, has to duck the thrown gun, it must be really bad. .Other shows made us think. The Lone Ranger and other westerns made us wonder why the old west wasn’t ankle deep in dead Indians and bad guys. Did you ever see anyone ever go back to pick up all those bodies shot out of the saddle? Nope. The Lone Ranger also taught us that you can wedge a loose bullet between two rocks and hit it with another rock to not only set it off but to shoot a bad guy 30 feet away.

Hey, I liked He-Man because it pioneered the message at the end of the episode that was copied by the Power Rangers.
