While I agree its not kind to laugh at any gift or card someone gives you. I understand that Ralph was just showing he was clueless. From the comments I have seen people need to lighten up. It’s just a cartoon.

I try to cover all my bases, I find one that is funny, a second that is serious. Unless I pay close attention I am not sure which one she is laughing at. Win-win.
Regarding comic psyche, she probably expects funny cards, so without an explanation from Ralph, she convinced herself it was supposed to be funny.
