When I travel I take a carry-on that’s virtually empty except for a book and a few necessary travel items. On the way home the same carry-on is full of all those little extras acquired between departures. Learned that trick early on.
I took a lightly filled suitcase to tour England and Scotland and filled it with woolens for gifts and myself. Woolens aren’t heavy, either, but are hard to pack down.
On our trip to France, my wife bought a light jacket that she wore for a couple of days. Getting tired of carrying it around after that we decided to ship it home. That $24 jacket cost $104 to ship. Not a good deal.
As a housekeeper, I have never kept something a guest left, unless it was left as a tip. And leave stuff, they do! I’ve seen people who have put all their clothes in the dresser and forgot them. The most left item, of course, is phone chargers.
We once left my four-year-old’s special lovey in a hotel. We realized it two hours down the road and called to find out if it was there. They didn’t find it right away, but they took our address and shipped it to us at home! Now that’s service!
The first time we went to Hawaii, we ended up buying a new suitcase to carry home all the “stuff” we bought. That thing lasted longer than most expensive cases, and years later we ended up giving it to my brother who needed an extra case to travel back East.

Maybe you should have brought an empty suitcase just for presents and things, Elly? ;)

Won’t that exceed over the weight limit for carry-on luggage on the flight back home?

She can just wear the skirt and blouses on the plane, but the shoes might be a problem.

The stuff for the kids and John are more important than your own clothes, Elly. Just leave ’em.

Hi All, just wondering what happened to Susan Newman. I don’t see any comments from her any more.
