Practicing some lay-psychology here: pets ARE substitute chldren. Little old ladies wish they still had/could have a baby to pamper, so they get little dogs and cats to do so. And empty-nesters coo and fuss over their little dogs in front of audiences big and small to get attention as “parents” again, even to the point of calling each other the pet’s mommy and daddy. I find it very annoying. Pets as companions is one thing, but treating them like children is slipping into….

couldnt get a cat from the spca, said they dont adopt out young cats to live outside. ITS A CAT!

Moxie thinks she’s a short, hairy human, but she doesn’t get steak. She does get the occasional scrap and has a passion for mini marshmallows.

There was a “news” article about that recently. A women breast-fed a puppy to help it survive since it wasn’t taking a bottle.
