@ZEKEPOTATO: Yes, I remember pre-TSA,: I was once on a plane headed for a family function and was afraid I’d be late. I asked the airline to have a taxi waiting for me when we landed (yes, I didn’t have to check anything, gels and liquids were allowed as carry-on). When the plane landed, the taxi driver was waiting for me just outside the door of the plane.
I remember the day when my son, then about 10, got to go inside the cockpit and wave at us from the window beside the pilot. We were standing by the window at the gate to watch him take off. …..He is 40 now.
It was great after the new rule that only people past the gate where the passengers, instead of everyone. Now, after getting pinched, squeezed and probed not so much. Need to send in decoys. “Dude you got cold hands!”
I won a Marlin 30-30 rifle when I was in the Marines. When I flew from Memphis to Seattle, I told the airlines I was traveling with a rifle. They put it in the cockpit and handed it back to me when we landed. That was in 1978.
My parents did a lot of traveling because of father’s work when I was young (oh, did they have air travel when it was still glamorous…) and I was practically bursting when they came home, a combination of glad they were back and wanting to see what they brought me and my brother.

A happy reunion of folks who remember that they really do care about each other, even if sometimes they get on each other’s nerves…
