Ripley's Believe It or Not! The German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen wrote a piece to be played by a string quartet in four hovering helicopters. An electric eel can produce enough power to run a microwave! Designer Sofia Diaz de la Rocha of Miami has made a dress from sawdust!

Just beware of termites when wearing Sofia’s dress, ladies.

This is a little misleading. A big electric eel can produce 750 volts at one ampere, which is 750 watts, which might be enough (barely) to run a small microwave. But this is an instantaneous discharge of 1/500 second or less. So don’t plan on catching electric eels to cook your dinner.

Herr Stockhausen has way too much free time on his hands.

I don’t know about the helicopter quartet. They are pretty loud.

Your arithmetic looks good. But I think it takes about 3 minutes to heat a cup of instant coffee. So you’d actually need 54,000 eels.

I don’t need a eel for my microwave..I need a eel to keep the neighbors dog from pooping on my lawn..
