    Surprisingly, of all the things George Washington Carver did with peanuts, peanut butter was not one of them. It was already invented or just didn´t cross his mind to roast them and grind them with some sugar or honey.Source: Alton Brown in Good Eats

    Peanut butter existed before Carver started his work. What he did was develop a process using peanuts to make oleomargarine (“butter”), thus “peanut butter” but not peanut butter. While he did develop many uses for peanuts, yams, etc., his most valuable work was in scholarly research, finding already invented, but neglected, processes and promoting their use.
