Husband’s case that is easy. Just look at the lettering for the type of job he has. The back has lettering that goes from by the armpit to the other armpit. Dude is in Security.
I agree with this strip wholeheartedly. It was easy to grab an undershirt and see the tag and know which way to put it on. Now I have to take time to look for the faded “tagless” printed “tag”, or hold it up, figure out which is the front, etc. I was never really bothered by tags in T-shirts, but oh well…
I can and do match up the shoulder seams, to figure out the front, if there isn’t something else like a design, pocket or V-neck. What is difficult if there isn’t a tag, is finding a place to mark the owner’s initial. All four people in our household wear XL, so I usually mark the owner’s first initial on the tag. Shirts without tags, I usually mark on the seam in the back of the neck, but if it is a dark shirt, I have to embroider it with a light colored thread. White tags are easier to mark.
I don’t have that problem. Now that they’re using ink instead of iron-ons, they don’t go away, especially if you buy quality. Also, if you wear V-necks, as I do, it’s impossible not to be able to tell the front from the back.

I have a solid black T-shirt on which I sewed an ace of spades card patch to help me tell which is the front.

Or look on your own back—the silkscreen can transfer to your skin.

I think getting rid of those miserable, itchy tags was a great idea. As Jo Clear stated, use the shoulder seams to determine where the front is.

Alternately, if it strangles you, you have it on backwards…

Just go ahead and wear it backwards. You will eventually anyway.

I was glad to see those tags go! I always cut off the ones that itched me anyhow!

Which is why plugger wives have indelible laundry pens: X marks the back. Of course, those black shirts….hhmmmm.

Well, it’s kind of tough to get it right the first time in a hurry … in the dark … responding to a tone-out!

If it is on frontward, it’s probably inside-out.

The pocket goes in the front.

The space between the shoulder seams is shorter in the back
