So, it Really does look like someone broke into the house and stole some items…I hope Hobbes didn’t have anything to do with it (in that he jumped on the thieves or something like that). I tend to think he is under Calvin’s bed… ;)

Who steals my purse steals trash; ’tis something, nothing; ’Twas mine, ’tis his, and has been slave to thousands: But he that filches from me my good name Robs me of that which not enriches him And makes me poor indeed.— William ShakespeareLuckily for me, that quotation has never been attributed to Hobbes. But then, come to think of it, Bill Watterson didn’t invent the name “Hobbes.” He borrowed it:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Hobbes

He could have used Hume, Locke, Mill, etc. Or Hegel, Kirkegaard or even Kant !!

Calvin’s Mom looks better In this blouse and slacks outfit than she ever did in that dress that she wore to the wedding.

I remember this from the original. All is well. Bill Watterson said the he took the characters’ names York John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes.

Hi Dha Dha. I’m doing well, but I’m working a lot these days and I don’t have much time for the comics. I hope things are going well for you in Thailand.

@Donkey Hotey: Yes, Hobbes is missing but Hobbes is here. I stop by periodically to create confusion. :>)

When I read this years ago, it was just a comic strip.

Six weeks ago, though, someone broke in to our house and stole a few thousand dollars worth of electronics, cameras, etc. They also rifled through the medicine cabinets looking for prescription drugs (we had none worth taking) and various drawers looking for jewelry (luckily my wife isn’t into that kind of stuff). And left the place a mess.

Anyway, the police said it wasn’t likely we’d ever get our stuff back, since we didn’t have serial numbers. If we had, we might have been able to find it at a pawn shop (aka legal fence). So write down your serial numbers!

What hurts is the feeling that some drug-addled jerk was pawing through our stuff, not caring about what damage he was causing, just to get a few bucks so he could get high. And that’s what Calvin’s parents are going through here.

The last panel indicates that Dad broke several pairs of glasses before he finally realized that he should remove his glasses before he claps his hand to his eye and forehead.

Dad says he feels hysterical. Would that be 1. causing or intended to cause laughter, 2. feeling overwhelming fear or worry, or 3. filled with fear or dread? Well, it is a comic after all; or, is it?

    That’s very true, Mum.

“Why me?” seems to be the most popular question in a person’s life.

On a side note….congratulations and thank you for a demonstration on how using real words, as opposed to those designed to hit one over the head, can convey the idea without being offensive.
