I find heteronyms more interesting. Those are words that are spelled the same, but are pronounced differently. Some examples are “number”, “does”, “lead”, “bass”, and “bow”.
“With the number of injections I’ve been getting, my arm is getting number and number.”
“What does a buck do with all those does?”
“That runner could take the lead if only he would get the lead out.”
“He put some water in an old bass drum and threw in all the bass and trout he caught.”
“She took a some ribbon and tied a big bow on the bow of the ship.”

I grew up calling them homonyms, but now homophones is a more common term, since it addresses just the sound and not the spelling at all.
