That is such a great tribute to Mickey Rooney – and slipped into the narrative is such an unexpected way. Hopefully, this summer, there will be a way to make some mention of the passing of one of Mickey’s early co-stars – Esther Williams. One of Esther’s earliest movie roles was opposite Mickey Rooney in Andy Hardy’s Double Life. If you look at the pictures drawn of Aunt Fritzi in the 40s and 50s, many of the pictures of Aunt Fritzi closely resemble pictures of Esther Williams during that time period. In fact, it seems to me that a majority of comic books which featured Aunt Fritzi in the 40s and 50s usually showed her wearing a bathing suit. In that time period, it seemed to me that Fritzi and Phil spent an awful lot of time at the beach.

Yeah … Nice tribute.What happened to Nancy … less and less in the comic strip.Miss that little girl……And Sluggo, too!

BOYS TOWN may’ve indeed been Mickey’s greatest dramatic performance. His “hey gang, lets put on a show” musicals (tho he never said those exact words) were also spectacular, showing off Mickey’s fantastic singing, dancing and drumming talent. A truly incredible star thruput his life. ☺

So — when do we get to the part of the backstory about Phil meeting Fritzi?

Celebrities are dying faster than you can name-check them. At this rate, you’ll have to put Bob Hoskins and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., in the same strip.

Really nice series this week.

I had wondered where this story line was going. Nice tribute to Mickey Rooney.

I KNEW it was a backdoor tribute to Mickey Rooney (glad his role in “Breakfast at Tiffanys” didn’t come up

I have a gut feeling that they did.

So, do we see a proposal later? Maybe July 4th when he sees the fireworks reflected in her eyes?
