Katy: Can we read Wacky Dan next? Adam: If you want. The original guy isn't doing it anymore. Katy: Wait. What? There's an imposter writing Wacky Dan? A charlatan?? Adam: How do you know the term "charlatan"? Katy: From reading Wacky Dan! It's probably not even a real word!

It’s the strips that have been taken over by their kid that I don’t understand. The whole idea of doing what my dad did for a living, and not striving for something more, something better; just struck me as wrong when I was a teenager.

Some kids take over the family business (restaurants, auto repair shops, et al). Others take over the family comic strips. Or trade off with another cartoonist for a change of pace.

Well little girl, there’s a charlatan doing this strip that used to be done by another cartoonist. We like him better. No daily office songs.

Who says you don’t learn something new by reading the comics?

My son was fascinated by his dad’s work. He went to college and then went to work where his dad worked and when his dad retired, he took over his job. Loves it.

I can trace my career choice to one incident. My father was taking “Introduction to Data Processing” at the local college as part of his job as a Statistician. I started reading his textbook and fell in love with “Data Processing”. So when it came time to choose what direction to take in my schooling after High School, I chose Computer Programming. Not what my father did, but sort of in the same general area.

I like Harrell’s approach to the strip well enough, but every now and then I long for the good old days with Basset. Basset would get some really good ones every now and then. But Harrell has his moments, too, especially now that he’s warmed up to the strip.

I prefer Rob. He doesn’t get all wrapped up in theme weeks. I love Red and Rover, but once again we had a week of, in my opinion, a useless stretch of cartoons that just didn’t interest me. But then again, these guys stir our imaginations, which is a lot more than I can say about myself.

I didn’t start reading this until recently so I only know Rob. To be fair I went back to 2004 and read all of January with Bassett and I have to say I prefer Rob including the drawing of Baby Nick but I think Bassett made Laura look more adult.

I think he knows that, he’s just fooling around.

Is Katie too young to be told that some comics continue under other people after the original cartoonist dies, such as Popeye’s originator? Other strips cease after their originators die; I think Winthrop did.
