Actually, you can hide — but for how long is another matter….

Calvin? What happened to all those sandwiches you prepared? You’re not going to last very long on this desperate journey without eating Something… ;)

I remember running away and hiding at a playground when a friend’s mother caught us playing with matches in his yard. Didn’t go home for hours….scared to death. It was so many years ago now that I can’t remember how it all turned out. But it couldn’t have been as bad as I was fearing. Actually, I think things seldom are when you’re a little kid. I ’ve noticed that that is no longer the case when we grow up.

I told my boys when they were little that if they wanted to run away from home to let me know. If things were that bad I would run away with them.

I think mom and dad will have mixed emotions when they finally find Calvin. They won’t know first to hug him (because he’s OK) and then kill him (for scaring them so much) or the other way around.

Is tomorrow’s strip where the tornado grabs Calvin and Hobbes and whisks them off to Oz?

Calvin, the trick is to get your folks worried more about YOU than about a car. They’ll be so relieved to find YOU they’ll forget about the car.*That’s because a car has a better trade-in value than do you or your tiger.

Just tell Mom to get another car, they’re cheap…only 75 bucks.

I love his expression in panel three, so frightened and vulnerable. You don’t see that very often. Makes you want to gather him up into a warm, safe hug. The little monster. Like dflak said, you want to hug him and throttle him simultaneously. My youngest had this routine down pat. I often wonder how we both survived his childhood!
