Cuco: Happy Tres de Mayo! Eddie: Wha? Cuco: Cinco de mayo marks the Battle of Puebla where the French were defeated by a ragtag army of Mexican peasants. Tres de Mayo marks the Saturday you party before Cinco de Mayo.
My cousin’s church had a big Cinco de Mayo party last year…they had Mexican dancers and authentic Mexican music. I don’t usually like spicy food, but the food that was served was also delicious! I had a lot of fun… ;)
The 5 de mayo is not a major holiday in Mexico, its a solemn day actually, and it wasn’t a ragtag of Mexican peasants but the best army we could assemble for such important battle. It’s only celebrated like that in the USA, so it is more a American holiday than an actual Mexican holiday. You celebrate it as if it were the 4th of July. Learn and investigate a little before talking.

Yesterday was Dos de Mayo. Day before yesterday was Primero de Mayo. Tomorrow is Cuatro de Mayo. Big whoop.

indithink: The party aspect is only in Mexican “tourist areas.” It was imported from the U.S.
