Dogs can have carob. I’ve made dog treats with both carob powder and carob chips. My dogs weren’t particularly crazy about them. They did like the peanut butter and chicken bouillon ones, though.
Our vet says dogs can tolerate a little chocolate but they will eat way too much if possible. Our Border Collie loves chocolate and gets an M&M occasionally. Otherwise, we keep it completely out of reach.
It’s not too bad if it’s milk chocolate. The dog of a friend of ours once ate an entire bag of Hershey’s Kisses, foil and all. Some vomiting, but Bill said cleaning up the dog poop was easy. He just went out at night with a flashlight and looked for the sparkles.
