Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for June 15, 2014
Transcript:
Dad: Oh, yuck. Petey: What? Dad: There's a green, clown shaped marshmallow in my cereal. Petey: It's Alice. Dad: There's another one! What's Alice? Petey: She's spreading her dire influence. Petey: She leaves toys everywhere, her stuff seeps inexorably into every corner of the house. Petey: Blocks, stuffed animals, tiny doll shoes, creeping into every nook and cranny, overwhelming all that are not Alice. Dad: That's just silly. Petey: Marshmallows migrating into your cereal can mean only one thing- Mom: We're out of orange juice. Have one of Alice's juice boxes. Dad: NO. Petey: She's in the food chain. We're doomed.

Wonder if Petey shares my hypothesis about the genesis of other household items…. I’ve believed for a long time that paperclips are larval coat hangers…. the paperclips disappear and wire coat hangers magically fill up the closets. Now I’ll have to start looking for marshmallows in my Cheerios….sigh.

Yes, Happy Father’s Day, Peter, Richard, and all father-commenters!BTW, Alice’s detritus (she’s in the food chain!) reminds me of the oh-NO!-worry-of-the-day I just read about: It seems that there’s a world-wide salt-water invasion of microplastics, teen-eintsy particles of plastic shed from all our plastic marvels. These plastics can harm marine life, but apparently no one knows to what extent, and many marine scientists are not even aware of them. http://www.tampabay.com/news/environment/water/microplastics-imperil-marine-life-in-tampa-bay/2184411

Personally, I tend to like the green-colored cereals/candies the best.
And, is it just me, or might the “No” in the last panel sound better like this?

@ Saucy 1121: That depends on the species of coat hanger. Around here they usually hatch into shopping carts or re-bar.
