Tracy does seem pleased to meet Mr. Shaw, despite his distaste for what he draws. He always seems to be able to tell who the good guys are, and is happy to accept their help.
Probably would have been a better idea for Shaw to meet Tracy somewhere else….pretty hard to miss that yellow trenchcoat and hat! Then again, he could always say he had asked Tracy to drop by for some input on the Straightedge project……not!
They keeping us in suspense so far. Tracy is finally being brought up to date on stuff that we faithful readers already know.
Maybe we do learn a couple of things:- Sparkplug is “famous” in Tracy City. I would have thought so, but couldn’t be sure till now- The horse was apparently taken across town between scenes. I’m not sure this is true because he was back in his home stable very quickly after the race, or that’s certainly how it seemed.- Nice try with the “photos” vs. “photo finish” pun, but it actually was nowhere near a photo finish and that was specifically noted after the race.
By the time Tracy gets the rest of the story (in Scott’s limited perception of it) Kolossal will be who-knows-where. Even an attempt at some friendly questioning of Kolossal will reveal that something is amiss.
Scott could be less cute and more to the point in his explanation to Tracy of why he called the Chief of Detectives to the Kolossal Studio. And since Tracy presumably had to sign in at the lot entrance, his presence could be known to Kolossal and even Tabby already….
This is great. Dick Tracy’s profile was one of the first things I learned to draw when I was a child. It’s how I learned how to read. i would draw the cartoon characters and then I’d have to know what it said in the balloons and how that related to the alphabet I was learning at school (which I hated)…Flashbacks..in color and in black & white..

does Mr. Shaw take the racing forms? He may have noticed Sparkplug wasn’t listed in any races that day.
