What’s happening in the final panel doesn’t seem good.

Of course, by the time everything is resolved, Baby Richard will have broken down and used the toilet, andhis mother will be grateful to Elly for finally breaking him of his potty habit.

Please put a sign out in front of your house that says – “We are proudly a gun-free home.”

Then you can watch first hand what happens when you take the guns away from the law-abiding people or limit them.

Are you against knives and cars – just as much? They kill too and even more frequently than guns. Perhaps we should ban Donkeys – they kill more per year world wide than guns. Wise up!

Look past the accidents. (Accidents are the top cause of death for ages 1- 45).-Murder is the #4 cause of death for kids 5-14The #2 cause of death for 15-24 year olds. The #3 cause of death for 25-34.(According to the CDC, which didn’t break down the figures according to weapon used. Most of those people killed in the past few weeks with guns would fit these stats.)

What bothers me most about today’s gun riff is what started it – John breaking into the neighbor’s house for a potty seat.

Some of the readers here sound angry that there was no one in the basement waiting to shoot him because he’s a burglar.

Having worked in law enforcement, I have seen more cases of civilians using firearms to ward off bad guys than police. In most cases where a burglar is confronted by a gun owner, the usual preferred choice is flight to fight. Not many people realize this, but the big reason that police and military are armed is to protect OURSELVES, not everyone in the community. Also another fact that has been held up in court is that people have no right to police protection. The police are responsible to defend “society as a whole”, not individual people. Many courts in Canada and the United States have ruled in the police’s favor when people have tried suing the police for not getting there in time when they were threatened by bad guys. For more on this, check out “Dial 911 and Die” by Richard Stevens.

That would be much, would you think? There is no justification to use lethal force unless the intruder is showing “clear and present danger”, i.e. coming at the police with an axe, baseball bant and ranting like a nut that he will kill them. John seems a bit too composed for that. FBOFW is a family strip, and it sounds like Lynn Johnston knows a gun battle would cause her to lose readers, probably the same way a family strip talking about homosexuals.
