Lots of stuff happening today. Angus is getting increasingly desperate. Meanwhile, the Sounds o’ Plenty are back in the strip for the first time since the infamous “Sparkle zap” and it appears that Sparkle and Junior’s new baby has been born! I wonder whether it’s a boy or a girl.
WDQP and Angus are too close for comfort, especially with the even-vulnerable Plenty ladies there to fulfill the “damsels in distress” rôle. It maybe that that the giddyap Scotsman is about to reap the whirlwind…. What a Nightmare!
That mayor looks like a Morgan horse with those nicely drawn legs. What is that horse looking thing in panel three ? well at least TA is kind to his horse. He needs to find religion or something because he seems to be in self destruction mode most of the time.Yesterday our 2 month old ducks (six of them) discovered the pond, you talk about entertaining we laughed for hours. They are too cute!

I usually check every three months or so on the ‘Marty and Spud’ strip to see how he’s doing, try to access the strip and note if he has accumulated any following, And would even give encouragement. Yet, there came a period of no activity, a ‘gap in production’ in the latter part of 2013. A sort of Sabatical ! I believe he said he had to put it on hold as there was a need to assist a ‘certain’ Author with his book Project He later resumed production, but 2 weeks ago when I went of a check the strip
-It was all gone !* Not a trace . . . a search for Strip and even the Author’s name on Go Comics drew a BLANK, all had simply VANISHED as if it had never existed ??
A search on Google revealed that he now had a private site and was still periodically doing the strip, but there was little on his Comment Board
Feel sorry for this unfortunate turn of events, believe he “aspired” to be the new Man to DO the Dick Tracy strip,. It’s believed (subject to confirmation) that he put in a lot of work on sample strips, rumor suggests several months. And if so, it was all for ‘naught’.
We may not agree, and it’s always better to move on, but the ‘bitterness’ and those nit picking critiques may have an understandable foundation ?
I’ve been working on a screen play based on DT with Sparkle, Gertie and BO as a family of country western musicians. I’m hoping to have them played by Carrie Underwood, Reba Mcintyre and Willie Nelson. With Tracy tracking down crooks and country music played in between I think it could be a hit.
Another unexpected turn of events in this great story that keeps on giving. Seeing Tabby approaching the radio station where Sparkle and Gertie are playing makes me nervous for their well-being. Tabby best behave and not make Sparkle cry...Thanks to Morrow, Chris Sherlock JPuzzleWhiz, Ray Toler and mzkdad for the kind words. Much appreciated!.Ray, I will definitely check out Vieux Carre at Raven Theatre. I have never seen a production of this Tennessee Williams play. I had the pleasure of seeing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Trip to Bountiful there. You were the set designer on both productions and your work is absolutely first-rate. Well done with the seedy boarding house! I recently saw Mud Blue Sky at A Red Orchid Theatre and recommend it.
Jpuzz,.Re your question:.“What if the thieves steal the car?”.Auto burgs are more common that auto thefts. This week’s tip is a way to prevent, or at least discourage, or at the very least not encourage, auto burgs. .Bringing up oranges is not really a valid argument against apples.
Ken,.Re your comments from yesterday:.“Thank you, Jim, that was most interesting. Although I realized that the ‘Imaginary City’ was patterned after New York, I never knew which borough was which.”.The other things to know is that the city is turned on its side, so that Uptown points west instead of north, and Downtown points east instead of south. For this reason, in the early novels, when Manhattan had a Homicide West and a Homicide East, in the 87th Precinct books, it was “Homicide North” and “Homicide South.” Later, when NYPD changed it to Homicide North and Homicide South, it became “Homicide West” and “Homicide East” in the series.
“I first found the 87th Precinct in the book ‘Fuzz’ in the base library while I was stationed in Japan in the Air Force. Then I read ‘Doll,’ and then any one in the series I could find. Although McBain’s depictions of the nastier aspects of city living were disturbing to me, I found the police procedure storytelling very fascinating, and his use of coincidence and third person “here, there and elsewhere” style of writing intriguing. Also, the whole ‘squadroom’ approach, where there was more than one protagonist although Steve Carella clearly emerged as the main character in most of the books. And, at least once that I can remember, he made a reference to Dick Tracy, when a character noticed the large snowflakes that were falling, just like in the comic strip.”.The first one I read was THE PUSHER, the third in the series (interestingly, I’ve just acquired the film version on DVD, which serves as a kind of pilot for the early ’60’s TV series, since Robert Lansing plays Carella in both the film and the subsequent series). It was in that book that McBain decided to kill off Carella..His editor, Herb Alexander at Pocket Books at the time, wouldn’t let him..“You can’t kill Carella. He’s the hero,” he told Hunter..“What do you mean he’s the hero?” countered Hunter. “The whole concept of the series is that the SQUAD is the hero.”.“Concept schmoncept,” replied Alexander. “I’m telling you you can’t kill Carella. He’s the hero.”.In the end, Hunter relented, and Carella experienced a near-miraculous recovery from the bullet wounds he’d sustained..Another failed attempt to “Reichenbach” the lead detective in a popular series (Sherlock Holmes fans will know what I’m talking about). .If you’d like to read another series about a similar “corporate hero,” try John Wainswright’s series about the cops who serve various parts of “Lessford County” in the North of England..Wainwright spent 20 years as a constable in the County Constabulary of the West Riding of Yorkshire. He KNEW police work in the North of England..In the early books, he sometimes wrote about the cops of the Lessford County Constabulary, sometimes about the cops of the Lessford City Police, sometimes about the cops of the Bordfield City Police. Sometimes it would be a joint investigation between the County Constabulary and one or the other of the city police forces. Lessford County was the West Riding. Lessford was Leeds. Bordfield was Bradford..Later, during the force amalgamations that the Home Office mandated in the 1970’s, the three forces in Wainwright’s novels were combined into the Lessford Metropolitan Police, the fictional analog for the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police (now known simply as the West Yorkshire Police)..Sometimes a character is the lead. Sometimes supporting character. Sometimes he doesn’t appear at all. Sometimes the viewpoint character is a criminal. Wainwright really brings the “corporate hero” concept to fruition in a way that Hunter/McBain was not able to.
Regarding the song being sung by Gertie and Sparkle today, it occurs to me that, since Sparkle hasn’t given birth yet, it would be more appropriate for them to sing “We’re Having a Baby, My Baby and Me.”.You can find it here:.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrTPaa9kJ1o

Rosato’s cue stick lies broken, balls scattered on the table
He’d make amends, renounce his sins, if only he were able.
Reflection comes quite easily, when one is gagged and bound
Assured by violent cutthroats that your corpse will not be found.
The Blackhearts induce terror, no mercy or half-measures
Goons and thugs at their command secure silence, protect treasures.
Angus has Clark in a tight spot, life dangles by a thread
Where Rosato went there’s room for more; silent are the dead
.Late in the day to see the light, Clark goes where few crooks dare
Hoofs it to the MCU with visions of vicious Nightmare.
Elsewhere, look to hear the Sounds of Plenty on the radio
“There’s a Brand-New Baby at Our House,” opens up the show.
Outside approaches Tabby, on a horse that needs a drink
Loves to get out for a ride to a quiet place to think.
He tends to take to horseback when troubles weigh a ton
Few would wish to meet him; the wisest know to run.
