I thought they were buying for six even without the mother in-law.

With the way they eat, I don’t think it will make a difference.

I really, really like Burl’s wisecracks. I think I’ve said this before. For such a dummy, he has a real knack for sarcastic wit. In real life…being married to Julie (or being her mother-in-law) could prove to be a real challenge to one’s sense of importance.

Maybe - just maybe - that’s why Ray C prefaced the remark with ”IN REAL LIFE…”

For anyone who didn’t understand my comment: the author of the strip is named Julie Larson. I was referring to her, as gimmickgenius hinted in his post. In case further clarification is needed: Julie is the one who comes up with Burl’s snappy wisecracks. I infer from that, that she is pretty sharp-tongued herself. Thus, being married to Julie (or being her mother-in-law, which relationship classically but not always leads to some catty remarks) is a real challenge to one’s sense of importance. Burl’s best lines are when he deflates someone’s sense of importance. If this explanation helps, it would be polite to thank gimmickgenius and me; but I won’t be expecting it.

If they buy for two and let three eat, maybe they will lose weight for once.

DerekA: Thank you. I’m pretty sure almost everyone did. I just felt like venting. It was childish, I know.

Not childish at all, Ray_C. You gave a good explanation that should clear up any confusion.
