I have been and always will be funky.I was the only white kid in high school the “brothers” accepted as having “soul”. I even attended a James Brown concert in downtown DC back in 1970.I had “sister” girl friend who went with me. They let her in but stopped me. I was asked “What you doing here???” I responded “To be in the presence of the God Father of Soul.”The “big” brother smiled and said “Let’em pass….he’s cool.”Except for a few girls I was the only white guy there. It was a very entraining show for sure.

James Brown was perhaps the greatest onstage entertainer of his generation…there’s a reason he was called “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.” You were fortunate to see him in his prime. He was more than an entertainer, though. He was a voice of conscience to a lot of people and probably helped prevent rioting in Boston after the MLK assassination. How many people could’ve done that?
