Yep. As a child I was thinking Doberman ears naturally stick up like that. Or maybe, they start to stick up as the puppy gets older like German shepherd’s ears do. Nope.
How many Star Trek geeks immediately recognized the quote and the episode it was from? I know I did. (And I’m referring to “Vulcans never bluff”, not the mechanical rice picker line from “The City on the Edge of Forever”.)
OK, better go ahead. The line is from “The Doomsday Machine.” Spock has just threatened to have Commodore Decker arrested after Kirk orders Spock to take command. Decker says, “You’re bluffing.” Spock replies, “Vulcans never bluff.”
I do like the original Star Trek; after a while, I could even get with Jean-Luc Picard replacing Kirk, and although loaded with way too much CGI, I even enjoy the latest creations from JJ Abrams. However, I wouldn’t call myself a geek.I have a friend who likely could repeat every line from every episode and/or film ever made! He, is a geek!
Sorry to disagree; but, I also like some of the “older” films. You may have heard of them… they were made without much of any “special” effects, and they are, excuse me, made in black and white!I have a significant collection of these films, and some are actually in Blu Ray, so it’s not like I don’t have the latest in high tech equipment. I just think in some films the CGI can get in the way of telling the story.
I agree. The quote is from “The Doomsday Machine”. One of my favorite episodes in general, and lately one of my favorite moments. Spock being immensely cool and immensely bad***, dressing down a Commodore (“You tried that already. The result was a wrecked ship and a dead crew!”) with a giant earbud sticking out of one ear the whole time.

No, as I recall he got his ears caught in a mechanical rice picker and he met up with an American missionary who was also a skilled plastic surgeon.

That was just a cover story. He was embarrassed that his ears perked up so much when he saw Sister Keeler

Wouldn’t want to spoil it by giving the answer. I’m surprised, though, that Rover doesn’t prefer “Enterprise,” which includes Archer’s beagle Porthos.
