I sometimes read my Nook in bed until my eyes cross or my hands go to sleep. I do however sleep better when the tv is on, even if I can’t really hear it, just the extra noise puts me right to sleep.
I’ve never understood how people can fall asleep to the same noise that awakens them in the morning. The only noise in our room is the hum of the window a/c. The TV is in the den.
I have tinnitus, and I’ve found that the air-cleaner fan provides a soothing counterpoint. My middle granddaugters, however, sleep all night with some teen music belting away.
Cannot sleep in the dark and cannot fall asleep without the TV on. I find that I cannot shut my mind off at night to go to sleep. I need a TV show/movie which I know well enough not to need to watch it to see what happens and is not a favorite enough to want to see it again – Married with children and original Law and Order work well. I turn volume down to just on and also run through info in my head – presidents, presidents wives, states in alphabetical order or reverse or by map location. I need to focus my mind so that it does not wander. Even so I often don’t fall asleep until after dawn.

My husband doesn’t sleep well if I’m not there, either. Enter Kindle. I can read with the light turned off.

Luckily my honey and I both like the tv on at night, of course we mute it during certain times. ;-)
