I use the pressure cooker on dry beans if I forget to soak them overnight. Ten minutes in the pressure cooker will soften the beans and hydrate them so they won’t take up more water and burn, but it won’t remove as much of the indigestable sugars as soaking and rinsing.
I try very hard not to offend, but when you put it that way, ronaldmunday, uh… Yeah. Although I was probably wrong about not removing any of the sugars, so I’ve edited my original post.
I’m old-fashioned - I still use my pressure canners (yes, I have more than one) every single year. My husband, who came from LA, was looking for a wife who still “put up” food. His “pick-up line” to me was, “I’ve always wanted to learn how to do dill pickles.’ Our first date was at my favorite pick-your-own produce farm. He helped - and we’ve been canning together for more than 20 years now….must have been the right kind of pressure…
I still use my pressure cooker. As bmwk12ltc said, it’s a great way to cook certain meals - especially veggies and stews. It does especially well on artichokes.
Doctor Toon, I remember Bugs Bunny produced a canned monster once. Probably not a big market, but it’s good to keep them up on a shelf out of the way.
Pressure cookers – My wife and I bought one a couple of months ago as a wedding present for our cousin (on her bridal list). My mother used hers a lot to make delicious stews. It would make cheap cuts of meat fall-apart tender. Mom especially loved her Presto electric because the thermostat ensured the proper pressure with very little attention–no need to keep adjusting the burner.
I love Shoe’s look of dismay and Cosmo’s manic enthusiasm.
I can’t find a new guage or gasket for great grandma’s pressure cooker, but it’s still a good big pot to boil those beans for a few hours. I enjoy trolls & farts for the same reasons; a little noisy, a little stinky, a little amusing.

It seems to me we have trolls everywhere! (some would even consider my previous remark as trollish)

LuvH8 - your previous remark is most definitely not trollish.

Do people still use pressure cookers? I thought they had gone away. I tend to do a lot of my cooking in the microwave.

LuvH8- Thank you for your posts and advice, the “trolls” have been getting vicious lately.

The Pressure Cooker Club has given way to the microwave…
But, even Emeril has used one and so has Mr Flay…. if Bobby can use one, then they are ok.
I still have mine and have even used it within the last 10 years.

Cosmo looks so determined in the last panel, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him look like that before… it’s scary… :D

Good Morning All
LuvH8–Good advice. It will get a negative reaction from the guilty parties only.

Are people trolling when they make obvious, transparent comments? I need deep thought to get ready for the day.

My wife still uses her pressure cooker at least once a month. It is a great way to cook certain meals.

Pressure cookers ain’t only made from metal & plastic…frustration & stress also blows the lid off.

I went ice fishing yesterday. There was a big crack in the ice so I went trolling instead.

Coming up with an original comment for the 20th one is too much of a pressure cooker for me. I’ll have to skip it today.

Pressure cooking won’t remove trolls either.

Pressure cooking is great for Chicken and Dumplings–German comfort food. And the pots work well for cooking jellies and jams also.
Microwaves have their uses, and strengths, but cooking food in the first place is not really one of them.
