Depends on your faith, Joe (Catholicism)

Interesting. The Roman Catholic Church which I think is what gulfcoastgirl is referring to holds to original sin being the “sin by which the first human beings disobeyed God choosing to follow their own will rather than God’s will”. (RC Catechism). Therefore “sin became universally present”. It goes on to state that “besides the personal sin of Adam and Eve, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature which affects every person born into the world”.

As Joe knows, there are many doctrines named that are not so titled in the Bible - example - the Trinity. The issue of Adam’s sin and the consequences is another that has been given various titles.

I am sure Joe will respond, but I think if you look at it, what Joe is saying, it is very close to the same. Everyone has a propensity to sin - that is our fallen nature. However, no one but Adam can be credited with performing the original sin. Now Augustine defined it as “inherited sin” and was transmitted through procreation. Calvin on the other hand relates it to an ordinance of God, a judgment of God passed on to all mankind whereby Adam’s sin is imputed to all in the same manner as Christ’s righteousness is imputed to all believers. This begs the question that in our nature is there any area that is not corrupted by sin. Now there is another view tied in with this and that is that Adam is the federal head of the human race and as such we suffer for what our federal head does (think of our government for a parallel). If you are thinking that way then you would term the sin of Adam as being federally applied to all progeny.

So what Joe has deftly said is if you are a believer, Christ has imputed His righteousness to you and there is no Original Sin as an issue - the key word here is believer. Now the issue of propensity to sin which is in our nature does not go away, but that propensity is covered by Christ’s righteousness for the believer - whether by nature, federal, inherited or imputed.

Lord, save me from your followers!

It was a comment on health insurance, not religion. And certainly not faith, which is not to be confused with religion. It’s supposed to be a joke! Even God laughs, you know. It might be a good idea to follow his example.

Sheesh! didn’t mean to start anything. Meant as a light comment. Nothing more. I’m kinda new to posting, so, lesson learned.

Joe, What are your thoughts on Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 6 1643 edition. Not trying to start an argument just curious. I will try and drop by again to see your thoughts.

I like comixavier’s comment - if I’m going to be in trouble, it better be for something that I did, not something someone else did.
