I was interviewed once on the radio about a subject related to my business but about which I knew very little at that moment. The interviewer just carried me along in the same way Molly is leading Skeezix. I was afraid of dead air, but a skilled radio man can fill every instant effortlessly.
This is turning out well for Skeezix actually. He left his speech at home and was stressing because he thought he’d forget some key point…now the host is saying everything he wanted to say and put out the message!
He’s no more entitled to being called by his rank than he is wearing that uniform. Once you’re out that’s it. The best you can do is refer to yourself as “General (Retired) Norman Schwartzkopf” or whatever. Just like Clinton is supposed to be referred to as Former President Clinton.
Those who hold a regular commission are entitled to be called by their highest held rank for life. This is particularly true of full generals and admirals who collect full pay for life.
