Mom: Uh- oh. ITs that cashier. Petey: Who? Mom: The one who never speaks to me. Cashier: So we drove here on Wednesday and stopped Mom: She talks to everybody, but when I speak to her she just grunts and stares. Alice: Grunt? Petey: Let's get in another line, mom. Mom: Nope, too late! Here we go! Mom: Hi! It's time to buy more groceries! Ha ha! Cashier: Grunt. Mom: Well, we'd better get home and eat those groceries. Cashier: Grunt. Petey: She's talking to the lady behind you! Look, they're hugging! Mom: I must've offended her in previous existence. Mom: We're having groceries for dinner? BLEAH!

That cashier should have a talking to with the manager with Mrs. Otterloop’s complaint.

Grunt!Eat your groceries and behave, Alice. We wouldn’t want any cashier to be giving you the silent-except-for-grunts treatment, now would we?

It might not be you, Madeline. I remember when my youngest asked someone if she was a girl or a boy. He thought he was making a joke, but, yeah, that went over well.

I don’t know, I might grunt too with that sizzling conversation.

or they don’t even grunt, or even make eye contact, makes you wonder if you are really there?

Wonder what she could have possibly have done to get this sort of reaction from this cashier…they both seem to be decent enough ladies…

The cashier might not be able to relate to moms, or maybe she has a grudge against Madeline for being able to have kids.

I’m sure Madeline did something bad on a previous trip. Argued over an expired coupon. Never puts up separator bars and then complains when someone else’s groceries get rung up as hers. I see she asked for paper bags that could certainly irritate someone especially if she’s picky about what gets bagged with what and how heavy the bags are. A bad experience with a customer can make you very nervous around this person if they’re a regular customer. I knew some customers who were so mean to me that if I saw them I’d go hide in the back for a while. And no fault of mine, like one woman in particular kept asking me for a special order of something that was not my department and I kept telling her I’d leave notes for the appropriate manager (because she could never seem to come in when the manager was working) and she took it out on me that her order was never fulfilled even though I did as much as I could to get it for her. One time I even went and ordered the product myself and when it came in it sat there for two weeks before they gave up and just stocked it and then of course she was mad at me for that. Meanwhile she probably thought I was an unhelpful, rude person.

I went with my grandkids and their mom to a little alternative-type church. One of the leaders would give us the fisheye because the kids didn’t behave to her liking. Later she was having meetings to try to start the church up again and specified online that no children were invited to the meetings. So maybe Petey and/or Alice (especially Alice) got to this cashier.

This is why I prefer the self-service checkout lines. No human interaction.

The glasses and face shape make me wonder if we’re finally seeing Marcus’s mom.
