Mr. Am! Now we are in Wonderland! Am will do what Am will do, of course; let’s just hope he chooses to help Daddy and Tracy in the quest for the Little Princess!……………………………………………………….Thanks, Neil Wick, for the link to those 1937 strips: I am completely engrossed, and about halfway through, so far….
What a wonderful surprise! Fans of Little Orphan Annie remember fondly the stories of Mr. Am, that 1937 story in particular. He looks like he’s lost quite a lot of weight here, but I’ll bet he hasn’t lost any of his powers.
I wondered if Mr. Am would make an appearance in the story. I certainly didn’t expect him so soon. Things are off to a rousing start. Annie must be in terrible danger for Mr. Am to become involved.
The Great AM, never knew of this character before. Thanks to Stagger Lee for the background. But one thing’s for sure, the people who commented here don’t read their Bibles much…
Thanks to Neil Wick and Newenglandah for the background info on Mr. Am. I need to be brought up to speed on the various Annie characters. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Would like to know how Sirob and his men could find the jungle hideout from just a picture of a fishing boat in a harbor.Yes, I always thought that was a big gap, too. But my reprint book had no Sunday pages, so I speculated that it was explained on a Sunday. Now that I’ve seen the whole story, it still feels like something is missing.
This is wonderful. Not only is Tracy going to find Annie, but Mr. AM is making an appearance. I read the first Mr. AM story many years ago in a Big Little Book. I also read the Little Nicky story online from when Leonard Starr was writing the strip. AM, were featured when Jae Maeder was writing it. Little Orphan Annie" was not carried in our local newspaper. I bought two of the “Annie” collections, and I was frankly not impressed with them. I liked the Maeder version better. I only read that one storyline by Starr(and liked it), so I can’t make an opinion of his work. But it seemed that so much of Harold Gray’s work was devoted to expounding his political philosophy, which I found quite boring. I thought Maeder did a good job of updating the strip and added some much needed humor as well as some wry comments on politics and the international situation.
Thanks for the well wishes. We leave at 5:30 tomorrow morning. My wife’s brother and his wife are also celebrating their 40th anniversary and we are going together.
Top-o-the-evening to you, RWM. You haven’t been in the penalty box with stilldamatt, have you? If you were in it, did they let you both have your sticks?
As for WiFi on cruise ships, you could be paying up to $1 a minute for a not-too-impressive satellite connection, so it’s best to limit yourself to whatever you can find in port. Anyway, you’re not there to sit around web-surfing. You might as well enjoy everything you don’t have access to at home.

Mr. Am is a pretty reliable source, even if his value system is somewhat alien to mere mortals (mysterious ways and all that.)

I just realized something. Endtown has an omnipotent character named Aaron Marx. So his initials are… AM!

Warbucks must have lost his fortune again. In his good days he could have just bought that hotel, for cash.
Or he’s being modest for some reason.

What if Mr. Am is part owner of the hotel, along with a fellow named Mr. Si?

I like seeing Mr. Am. Could he be God? Many have thought so over the years.
This is my 40th wedding Anniversary. My wife and I are leaving tomorrow for a vacation in Hawaii.
We’re on a cruise so I doubt if I will have any internet access so see you all in 10 days.
