Filling in the blacks neatly is time consuming and tricky too. You think it looks fine, then you photograph it and you see white flecks all over the place where the ink wasn’t even. Your brush slips outside the lines and it looks lumpy and has to be fixed. You lean the side of your hand someplace that’s still wet and leave prints all over. *****************************
There was no ‘point and click’ back then. You just used up a lot of ink. And the lettering took no less time than normal; and Schulz did all that himself- no assistants. Now, if he’d done the old snowstorm gag, that’s different…
