Second panel; silhouette against some dim emergency lighting in the studio (surely there’s something there!) Or as well, some well-exercised artistic license! Or if absolutely nothing else, so we can all tell the panels apart, in B&W or color!
Hack artist indeed…Your obviously not a regular reader of this strip, which is one of the best ever and Mr. Scancarelli is a great artiest as well as prompt with humor.
I wouldn’t wish anyone on the unemployment line. Evan when parents have children and one decides to stay home by the time they try to go back employers think their too old and washed up. Only going for the younger generation. And I outa know. See commercials colleges advertise do you see anyone older then 30 not.
If she disrespects everyone the way she did Wallet earlier in the strip, she needs to find a job in management or production. she is oblivious to anyone but herself.
Just the way it was drawn / scripted made me not like the character.
In real world, I wouldn’t wish an unemployment line on anyone, but I would have no problem lodging a complaint with her employer.

Why does the second panel have a different back- ground color?

Hack artist? That comment is so dumb it barely merits a mention. Name one comic strip artist better than Jim, Mr. Expert.

We may be seeing Skeezix and Molly from the point of view of someone wearing infrared goggles, malevolently stalking them in the darkness!
I missed the “hack” comment before it was flushed, but happily see it did not go unchallenged. As noted by others, a ridiculous comment! Sheesh.
