Actually, that’s a funny comment. I’d never heard this joke before. But I don’t mind old jokes or old songs or old stories or old recipes, as long as they’re done well. This is masterful recycling!
Bryl-creem, a little dab’ll do ya,
Bryl-creem, you’ll look so debonair.
Bryl-creem, the gals will all pursue ya,
They’ll love to RUN their fingers through your hair.
Joe-Allen your great -grandfather was fortunate to live in his 90’s. On my dad’s side his uncle’s never made it that age they died of heart attacks due to greasy food and they where farmers.
My dad’s dad he did young I was a child, he and my grandma lived in a small town I think he had cancer.
Shortening is out of the question for me I have to take something so i don’t have a heart-attack.
Back in the old shows like Laverne and Shirlery didn’t both of those guys use grease on their hair?
Joe that 20mg statin pill is that Dr.’s prescription or over the counter. I currently take Vitorin that is expensive our medical insurance pays but that will be running out this fall. I plan to ask Dr. for a cheaper pill. I’m just happy my cholesterol is down including bad type and that is eating eating healthy no fats.
As for Leverne and Shirley show Lenny and Squiggy sure looked like their hair was greased.
I remember the sickly sweet smell of butch wax. It was pink and came in a round push-up tube. Perfect for the flat top haircuts that were all the rage in the 50s!
~~~
I remember when I was a kid my brothers had that brush cut with the little bit on top they’d use that butch wax on it. My dad was a barber and he would shave their heads except that little bit and put that stuff on it. I can still see him doing it and remember how it smelled.
Things were slipping before you started putting that stuff on your hair.
I should try lard – at least I’d have an excuse!!
BigGrouch almost 15 years ago
Lard should only be used for making biscuits.
JOE-ALLEN-It is also used to plug up peoples arteries and cause heart attacks.
I wouldn’t have it. In nearly 25 years of cooking I’ve never used it. I’ve rarely even used shortning.
