It’s called an “aside”, and besides the aside there is a more jarring sight in this strip. That is that Monty actually has a tablecloth! (even if it does look like a towel)
Monty could just be pretending to break a nonexistent wall in case someone’s watching, which we are, but he doesn’t know it. I do that sometimes. I hope it freaks out anyone who might really be watching me.
