Now for a short aside … just what is it that Mr. Flintheart is trying to tell us?

Dick meets the Doc?

ok so now we know HOW Annie sent that letter with a vintage postage stamp.

Looks like Dick is about to get “lost in time.” Whoever said that the search for Annie was about to become the search for Dick Tracy appears to have been right. It’s going to be a difficult search. That nuclear experiment on the island took place in 1944? I think it was during WW2. Maybe the people from the past came and grabbed him. This is getting very interesting! Besides “when is Tracy” we could also ask “when is Annie.”

I replied to some comments on yesterday’s strip at the last moment, so some of you may want to look back there.

I believe Vitamin would appreciate the words of the Great One who said, “And AWAAAAAAY we GO!” This strip really makes me smile. Thanks Team Tracy.

Further to my previous comment, Dick only said in the strip of June 25 “during the development of the atomic bomb.” Wikipedia gives the dates of the Manhattan Project as 1942-1946, so 1944 sounds about right. The bombings took place in Japan in August of 1945, so the “development” that Dick referred to should have been before that.

Judging by the last time Flintheart took to stage for speaking directly to the reader, it will be funny to see how some people interpret what he says this time around.

Well, so far this strip hasn’t really crossed the line and went with the impossible; we saw that when Moon Maid wasn’t really brought back. So I’d be surprised to see Dick actually go back in time, as opposed to the illusion of it…

I saw the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins mentioned yesterday. Anyone ever read Trixie Belden?

My GPS won’t head to Thunder Island without first turning the car into a DeSoto.

Tell me now, sweet Vitamin, are we doing the Time Warp? Is Tracy boating back in the Current of Time? What is going on at Thunder Island?

Serious Prediction

After reading the interview with Mike and Joe, in which they gave 1944 as a big hint, and seeing Tracy’s reference to 1944 in the June 25 strip, here is my prediction:

In October of 1944, Daddy Warbucks died. He mysteriously came back the next year, after the death of F.D. Roosevelt. Harold Gray never explained how this happened, but Warbucks was definitely dead, and then he was definitely alive. Maybe, just maybe, this story is finally going to explain one of the great mysteries of the Little Orphan Annie universe!

Wonder if Dicks rowboat can make the required 88 miles per hour?

Perhaps, given the direction things seem to be moving, a better Shakepearean quote for Vitamin to utter would have been “Time is out of joint…”

I LOVE the setup; reminds me of the opening of a certain Universal film from 1931, where Edward Van Sloan steps from behind a curtain (with similar lighting), and says,“How do you do… Mr. Carl Lamelle believes it would be a little unkind to present this motion picture without a word of friendly warning. We are about to unfold the story of “Frankenstein;” a man of science, who attempted to create a being in his own image — without reckoning upon God. It is one of the strangest tales ever told. It deals with the two great mysteries of creation; life and death. I think it will thrill you. It MAY shock you. It might even HORRIFY you. Of course, Vitamin was probably around when James Whale was directing this, so he might have… borrowed… the idea.

Shades of “Lost”

Most of what Vitamin portended last time he interjected himself into the story didn’t eventuate. let’s see if that changes.

Ahhh. I wondered why were suddenly having the sidetrip to the Philadelphia Experiment.

For him to act as the narrator, Flintheart’s cane should have a skull handle. “For those who came in late…”

It was a magic, time traveling stamp. It sent Dick to the past!

Alright Flintheart, if you know something then why aren’t you helping Tracy instead of pontificating on stage?

“How is that a spoiler?”.Well, I guess I was off that day when it was “revealed” on this board that the Nitrates will be back..We were certainly left “dangling” over their fate. I believe it was weeks after they took the plunge before Team Tracy revealed that dragging the lake did not produce their remains.

And now, a confession..One reason I haven’t been seen much around here lately is that I have zero interest in the Little Orphan Annie universe..On the other hand, I am a sucker for a good time travel story..Which, since it looks like that is where Mike and Joe are taking this story, I guess you guys are stuck with me again….At least until we get time back into the bottle!

I was just re-reading the strips from the last few weeks, and something occurred to me: What happened to the big disaster at the Smith plant related to this time travel experiment? We were shown one glimpse of people running in panic, but then Diet was calmly showing Tracy and Oliver around as if all was fine and nothing had gone wrong.

To you, every day is a loose end.

Why do I have this feeling weeping angels are involved?
