In high school I day dreamed someone would invent the calculator. It came to late! Then later I day dreamed about a hand held computer! WOW! I have an IPad! And it has a built in calculator!
My dad used a device call, IIRC, an “addiator”. It was a metal thing with sliding bits inside and you used a stylus to add or subtract with it. Pretty cool device, really, but definitely pre-dates the calculator.
Luddites are stricter about NOT having modern technology than Pluggers are. They are more like even more primitive than the Amish are for what they consider OK for technology.
It was 1972 and it was 3×6×1 inches. The display was LED and did the 4 basic arithmetic functions and extract square roots. Cost me 50 buckaroos. But I still love my Pickett Slide rule

What about the calculator wristwatch (made in ’75)? Are you a plugger still?

My Radio Shack calculator watches always ended the same way — the 0 button gave out (it’s the one that shut off the alarm).

I was never high tech enough to have one. Just pencil & paper. Still do it that way.

hahah. I have 2. One at the bottom of my purse and the other in my desk somewhere. Ya, I still use them! They fit in my palm and are petite.

Pluggers are old as dirt. I figure that caption can replace most of these and still fit.
