Everybody hates lawyers except when they need one, in which case they want the best one they can find (“best” being defined as “the one who can get the result I want”). We elect lawyers into office for the same reason.
I don’t remember the source, but there’s a quote I know going “I don’t keep lawyers around to tell me what I can and can’t do. I keep them to tell me how to do what I want to do.”
