Once upon a time the U.S. Open was on a grass surface. I also think it was clay, but not too sure of that.

Grass is a faster surface than clay, but clay dries quicker. They keep grass because it makes for a faster game and appeals more to the spectators.

I guess that the caller is French.

Tell the caller we will have Augusta paved, and Pebble Beach and whatever the others are .. if he want a hard surface – then give it to him! :)
