I have used windows for years from win 3.1.1 all the way up to Vista “I won’t touch win 8 or 8.1” the only one I had a real problem with was win 95 only because how it was built.
I’ve had people swear to me that Mac is far superior to Windows and that it’s a lot more secure, but I’ve always used whatever version Microsoft forces on us back to Win98 (and I LIKED Vista). Maybe because I’m a Seattle guy but mostly because I’m not confident about changing an entire OS without crash/burning my laptop. Otherwise, I’d probably do it.
I put Linux on an old notebook. Gave the little guy a new lease on life. For email, web browsing and a bit of word processing, it works great. What more do you need a notebook to do?
There were Linux versions that ran on Mac hardware even before the switch from Motorola to Intel processors, so it’s not at all unreasonable to be working on Linux on an “iFruit”.I’ve worked with both Macs and Windows for over 20 years (and I used to work in IT). I find networking and sharing printers, etc on Windows in a home environment is still maddening – shared printers routinely just stop being available on the network for example.
I use Ubuntu for 95% of my computing. I like Windows 7, but right now I have 18 “critical” updates that simply will not install. And since they are not going to do a 7v2, I’ll just stick with Ubuntu.

IT’ve been upgrading the PC’s at work to Windows 7 (finally)…so now I suppose they are where the Macs were in the ’90s!

Unusable, and worthless?

My linux/Chromebook doesn’t crash often, but the linux won’t talk to my printer at all, and that’s almost as bad.

Linux is still trying to get mainstream popularity. Some things never change.

The fun part was getting it to dual-boot with XP.

Windows 8 is making people disavow the Windows operating system.

Did Ubuntu exist when this strip was made?
